Activity First Aid
This 12 hour course (usually over 2 days) is ideal for sports coaches, instructors, referees, youth workers, activity group leaders and teachers. It is designed to give a more in-depth understanding and more practical content than the 6 hour Emergency First Aid certificate. It will enable you to offer an effective response to the injuries and medical emergencies that most commonly arise in active sportspersons.
The course is very interactive, with lots of practical student participation to develop confidence. An informative booklet is included in the course. The Awarding Body for this Level 2 qualification is ITC First Aid; the certificate is recognised by OfQual (QCF code 501/2396/8). The certificate is valid for 3 years, with a HSE recommendation of a 3 hour basic skills update annually.
Units Available
Unit 1 (6 hours) covers all aspects of the Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) syllabus including scene assessment, unconsciousness, CPR, choking, bleeding and shock.
Unit 2 (6 hours) develops the knowledge gained on the first day, with instruction on how to manage fractures, common medical conditions, the effects of temperature extremes and soft tissue injuries. This unit also includes a multiple choice question paper to confirm student understanding.
